Hi Everyone,

ON Wednesday, August 13 in as part of a lawsuit filed by the NFB I will
testify in a Maryland State Court House about how the current voting
accommodations for the Deaf-Blind do not allow us to vote PRIVATELY AND
INDEPENDENTLY.

The NFB has developed and accessible absentee ballot that can be done in
your home using the adaptive technology that you is best suited to you to
complete the ballot.

However, two individuals on the Maryland Board of Elections do not want this
accessible ballot because of concerns for security and increased voter
fraud.

But there is not indication the the accessible absentee ballot has a higher
security risk than the online absentee ballot that sighted individuals
complete.

Janice

Hello,
I wish the NFB of Maryland good luck in this case. And I hope they win. I
know this case is winnable in court. I too, have find it somewhat perplexing
that some political thugs consider our ballots to be a "security risks".
When no such risks exist. A Deaf-Blind ballot is no different than ballots
printed in Spanish. These arguments are meant to prevent the DB community
from exercising their voting rights. It violates our voting privileges. On a
personal note, I am fortunate to vote in my own state without any problems.
This is because I don't request specialized ballots such as in Braille
prints or Spanish. But in general, minority groups are often discriminated
against when it comes to voting. So I feel sympathetic to this case.

Good Luck!

-Sterling

Janice, good luck with your testimony tomorrow. This would be a great
resolution for next years convention. Please let us know how it goes.
