[NFB-DB] Family Resources for Learning ASL

Scott,

I appreciate your perspective on tactile ASL interesting.  AS someone
that wants to learn tactile communication because I am totally Blind
(but it occurred later in life) and profoundly deaf/HOH.

I am comfortable with the manual alphabet; but it is slow and for those
DB that were Deaf first before losing their sight often rely on ASL,
which has its own grammatical structure from spoken English.

Plus, I have found that the times I have attempted tactile communication
with other DB, interpreters or Support Service Providers (SSPs) that for
me, the ease of communication depends on the hand-size, pressure and the
other persons own personal communication style, skill and preferences.

This is one of the reasons, setting up for meetings can take time to
work out communication access issues.

I will take your experiences to heart Scott as my DORS counselor in MD
will look into tactile ASL tutoring with Steven Collins.
I do wish that we could sometime see you again at Convention.
