Greetings from Pennsylvania. My name is Marsha Drenth, I am the 1st Vice
President of the NFB National DeafBlind division. I also am President of the
NFB of PA Deafblind affiliate division. 

It is fantastic news to hear that Colorado has made steps in the creation of
a deafblind affiliate division. Many other states are working on this same
project. Currently, the NFB National DeafBlind division has affiliate
divisions in Arizona, Florida, Maryland, Maine, New Jersey, and
Pennsylvania. I know that the NFB National Deafblind division board is very
excited to have another state on board and taking up the issues of hearing
and vision loss.

The one important piece of information that I want to stress mostly is that
the Colorado NFB Deafblind affiliate group must have the NFB philosophy. So
having mentorship from one of the Colorado board or from the National
Deafblind division is going to be important. 

One of the main goals that for example Pennsylvania has taken up is to help
advocate for the state wide SSP program. Many of our members have written
support letters for the continued funding of such a program. Lately,
Deafblind individuals are working on producing videos to address some of the
myths that "some" individuals within the NFB have regarding hearing and
vision loss. 

As the 1st Vice President, I would be happy to mentor you and your DeafBlind
board to achieve the goals your group want to achieve. I have done this with
other states and this has been very successful.

Greetings All,

 I'm very excited that at our state convention here in Colorado, we finally
managed to elect a board to start building a division for hard of hearing
and DeafBlind. I was elected as president. I'd love to hear others,
experiences with building and running divisions. What types of things have
worked and been successful? What have you tried that hasn't been so
successful? In the past, we have had a seminar at state convention but no
activity during the year. I'm wanting to generate more activity during the
year, and hopefully actually get people involved. Thanks in advance for your
responses.
