Hi

Welcome to the deaf blind LIST. My name isineko I am also deaf blind. I’ve been blind since the age of six months old. And I started losing my hearing at the age of 11 years old in both ears.
**: I was born with congenital glaucoma, but I could see blobs of color back when I was young.

My hearing in the left ear has been less since I was 2 years old, with a very bad illness.

We are today without hearing aids I am profoundly profoundly deaf in both ears. No sign language and I do tactile sign language. And I know un contracted braille.
**: I do not have any hearing aid for the left ear yet. The Dr. is considering it. Thanks for letting me know about Bluetooth hearing aids. I did not know about them.

How do you learn the tactile way to communicate?

I have an ancient Perkins brailler. It is probably around 55 years old. It has had to be fixed several times. I also have a braille slate but I make mistakes because my hands have arthritis now.

I know contracted braille from years ago. I am working on learning UEB. (but I don’t like it).

I have a blue focus 14 braille display linked up to my iPhone. And I also have a Braille note touch +32 sale.

I got both of these from IKEA and connect they work with people with different levels of deaf blind. And I give you the products for free. And they train you on them.
**: Could you please give me the contact info for Ikea, so that I could request a refreshable braille machine?
Question have you tried Bluetooth hearing aids? Were you can link up your iPhone, iPad, Apple laptop, and TV through your Bluetooth hearing aids where you don’t have to worry about disturbing other people.
**: No, I haven’t. Thanks for that info.

Always love
Ineko Gary
Blessings,

Hi,
I am new to this list. I am 71 years of age and hearing loss is catching up with me.

My left ear has had high partial hearing due to life-long infections and scar tissue from infections and one major surgery. My right ear hearing is mostly normal.

My very high notes are gone, but I can still hear quite well in the right ear.

I woke up about a month ago with deafness in the left ear. There’s a blockage of some kind. They will use a tube and then probably a hearing aid.

Right now I am having difficulties with hearing directions and locations. This throws me off in many respects.

I turn up Jaws higher. Same for tv, radio and music. Sometimes someone wants me to turn these down but then I have trouble hearing. How do we handle someone wanting our items turned down, but then we won’t hear them well? Headphones throw me off, too.

I occasionally experience dizziness when I turn over quickly in bed.

My speech seems to be really loud in my head.
Sometimes people can’t hear my speech and
sometimes have trouble understanding me.
(Life-long issues)

Examples of what could help me as a newly-diagnosed deaf/blind person would be helpful.

Having db people to relate with would be very helpful. I know very few, if any, people in a similar situation.
Thanks,
Blessings,
Lauren Merryfield
