Are you planning to attend NFB 24 in Orlando and happen to be
DeafBlind? Do you need either an interpreter, or a Service Support Provider
(SSP), or both? Great! Keep reading for all the details to request either
or both.

Just as a brief reminder, there are differences between an interpreter and
SSP. An interpreter is doing interpreting, assisting with communication
either by voice or sign. An SSP helps with navigation and sighted guide and
telling you about your environment. They are able to help some with
communication, but are not expected to be interpreters. Please get your
requests in as soon as possible, the deadline is May 31st.

Once again this year, we are working with Dawn Duran with ASL
Communications for interpreting services at National convention. You may
contact her via email at:

dawn at aslcomm.com <mailto:dawn at aslcomm.com>

Before you request interpreter services, you Must be registered for the
convention. She needs a few pieces of information from you. Dates and
times of attendance, initially your general dates you will be there. And
then once you have the agenda a more specific schedule of what meetings,
events, and activities you plan to attend. Your email address and mobile
phone number, and your permission for that to be shared with your
interpreter team. What type of interpreter are you needing? ASL, tactile,
Protactile, voice over. Let Dawn know so she can make sure you have the
best matched interpreters. If you have a request for a specific
interpreter, let her know, and she will do her best to get that person for
you. If you request a voice over interpreter, tell her what type of voice
best fits your hearing requirements. When providing your mobile number, let
her know if phone calls or texts are the better way for you to communicate.

What about if you need an SSP? This year the NFB DeafBlind division is
running a volunteer SSP program. If you need an SSP, email your request to
President Maurice Mines at:

nfbdbpresident at mmines.org

If you have specific requirements in an SSP, please include those in your
email request.
