[Nfb-editors] NFB logo

Bridgit:
That still changes the logo. The thing about logos is the KISS rule applies
- Keep it Simple Stupid!
As for website uniformity, we are an organization of volunteers; only the
national office and a fortunate few affiliates have staff. For the rest of
us, we do website programming as best we can. Enforcing website uniformity
would require all to have common tools and people with common programming
skills and common templates. Either that or everything would have to be done
at HQ and I shudder at the bureaucracy that would foster. (grin)

The logo is not changed- it is the exact same Whosit logo,
divisions/affiliates can just add an element to make it specific to
their group. Like adding a guide dog, or the student division could
have the Whosit wearing a backpack. So the logo isn't changed at all.
It is still the NFB stick figure, but with an added element so that it
is associated with a particular NFB group. I fail to see how this
threatens the NFB. No one is creating a different logo. Especially
since we are one of the few organizations to have divisions and groups,
it makes sense that the Whosit would reflect certain groups this way.
If people were creating completely different logos, I could understand
the concern, but all this is, is using the exact same Whosit and
incorporating it to fit individual groups. Like with Omaha, all I did
was place it in the O in Omaha. If that is wrong and a "gross mistake,"
well perhaps we be less concerned with creative efforts and just work
towards creating environments that work to change mindsets. A logo
brands us, but without other things being consistent, we will not move
forward.
So calm down everyone. *grin* I didn't suggest anyone uproot the
organization and make drastic changes. I said use the exact same logo
and just incorporate something that makes it distinctive to that group-
though I know how the Federation hates distinction. God forbid
something, or someone, bring a fresh perspective.

I think this would be a *gross* mistake! NFB has and should have one and
only one logo. Otherwise, what's the point of a logo?

Mike,
I am not intending to replace the NFB logo; ratehr, I am wanting to
find
a way to use it in conjunction with another. One of my thoughts is to
incorporate a Whozit guide dog along with the regular Whozit. I have
also
considered Whozit with a guide dog. Of course, all of this is in the
conceptualization stage and would need to have the approval of the
Board. I
hope you understand I am a team player seeking to enhance the NFB, not
diminish it!
Fraternally yours,
Marion

I strongly urge you to raise the question with President Maurer. I
remember when we first switched to Whozit, we were reminded often that
the colors and Whozit figure had always to be identical for branding
purposes. I think only President Maurer could make the decision to add
an element to a division logo.
Cordially,
Barbara

>> Subject: [Nfb-editors] Letterhead needed
>>
>>
>>> I recently created letterhead specific to my chapter. I used the
>>> Whosit logo, but created a logo just for Omaha.
>>>
>>> The Whosit (which is the one from the NFB website) is in a large
>>> circle which is the first letter of Omaha, and the MAHA is off to
>>> the right in a slightly smaller size than the O. Below MAHA is a
>>> tagline I created, Breaking Barriers for the Blind.
>>>
>>> In our letterhead, the logo is on the left-hand side, and then our
>>> chapter contact info is to the right and centered on the page.
>>>
>>> The font I used is papyrus which is simple, but has a little flare
>>> for style.
>>>
>>> I also incorporated the blue color in the tagline, but Omaha is red
>>> since we live in the Husker state.
>>>
>>> Anyway, I say all this because if you like, I can work on something
>>> for your division. I did some work for the chapter as part of a
>>> final project in a public relations class.
>>>
>>> It didn't take long. Either way, I suggest you develop something
>>> specific for the division. It keeps you in the NFB, but allows
>>> something specific for the division. Like using the Whosit, but
>>> having him with a dog instead of the cane- that would be cute. And
>>> creating a tagline specific to the division that expresses who you
>>> are.
