Aloha,

DCAB is working with the Department of Health (DOH) and is participating in
an event on January 27, 2012. We are doing an exercise at the Convention
Center in Honolulu, and are asking for volunteers to participate from the
community. The exercise is about individuals evacuating to the Convention
Center as a shelter that houses a general shelter and an Alternate Care
Site. Individuals will be registering as if they are going to stay at the
Convention Center Emergency Shelter. The DOH wanted to invite people with
disabilities to participate as volunteers for the exercise. There are 20
slots available for people with disabilities.

Attached is the agenda for the event. Breakfast and lunch will be served to
people who volunteer. There are a few airfares for individuals who wish to
volunteer from the neighbor islands.

Please contact me by December 1, 2011, so I can provide a list of names to
the DOH and arrange for auxiliary aids and services for volunteers and/or
let you know who to contact on Neighbor Islands to arrange for airfare.

If you cannot volunteer, but know someone that may want to volunteer please
pass this information on to them and have them contact me. It is an
opportunity to experience and learn what happens when you go to an emergency
shelter and to assist Red Cross and DOH volunteers in how to interact with
people with disabilities.
