Why not write Dr. Maurer and ask him directly? While Ed is a
member of HQ staff, he might or might not know the rationale for
inclusion or exclusion of particular documents from being
displayed on the NFB web site.

Hi Ed,
I have a question for you since you work in the national center
and the tenBroek Library. How does the leadership of the
national center decide what recordings go on nfb.org? Also, who
can we contact to get something on the site?

Ken-
Let me clarify. We do want to have the recordings in our
audiovisual archives. Whether the national leadership wishes to
make them available through NFB.org is another question.
Thanks

Hi Michael, go ahead and keep the tapes.
When I listen to them, the quality is very good.
I don't understand why the National Office wasn't interested in
them.
I hope the tapes were the originals.
Yes I will be at convention in Orlando, Florida.
See you then.

Kenneth,
You sent those tapes to me. I've done a little research on the
subject to refresh my memory and found the original thread that
led to you sending me the tapes. There was an interest in
hearing the 1978 Banquet address by Ralph Sanders. You stated
you had a record of it and told anyone who wanted it to contact
you. You then posted the following:
"Hi Ryan, I just put my 12 inch record on to a cassette tape,
and I will send it to Michael Freholm either tomorrow or Monday.
The second side of that record is where Kenneth Jernigan
addressed The Brotherhood of Teamsters on August 15, 1978.
I used a small Cassette Recorder, and a Talkingbook Record
player.
I also recorded Why I am a Federationist and Disability and
Visibility By Kenneth Jernigan.
I believe both speeches were done in 1974.
Ken Chrane "
I made a digital recording of the Banquet Address and the speech
to the Teamsters and, if memory serves, I sent a copy to RyanO.
My main interst was of the Banquet speech. I just wanted to hear
it and so did others but the National Office is in no way
interested in putting this on the website and, thus, we will not
be putting this up on a Living History website. And even if we
were, the sound quality is not very good. I made a digital
recording of a tape recording of a 12 inch record. The
recordings are not of the quality to be put up on the national
website. As for the other two Jernigan speeches, the quality
wasn't good enough. Perhaps the national office could do a
better job in making a digital copy than I.
I still have the tapes you sent me Ken and will bring them to
Orlando and return them to you. if you are going to be there. I
apologize for any misunderstanding concerning the final
destination of these recordings. I was interested in possibly
putting them up on the living history website once it's up and
running but do not recall saying I would get them put up on the
national website. My apologizes again for any misunderstanding.
Best, Michael

Thanks for posting this Tina and thanks to all those who
responded. I was planning on posting the same question tomorrow
but you beat me to it. I was also hoping to announce some other
stuff but I don't have confirmation yet.... Nevertheless, it's
important that we don't duplicate recordings (not that it will
really hurt anything but it would be a waste of resources.) and
we need to make sure that important things get recorded. If
anyone has any suggestions in this matter please post them to the
list.
The Living History meeting is scheduled for Sunday June 3 from 7
to 8:30. Hope to see you all there!
Have a safe trip,
Michael Freholm

This list has been almost dead over the past several months, so
I thought I'd get things rolling by asking what people plan to
record for archive during the convention. I will be doing the
Membership committee meeting, as well as the Newsletter and
Publications committee. They're on separate nights this year,
which is a first. Other than that, I'm wide open.
I also plan to do the Living History group meeting this year, as
usual.
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but what good is it
when people record all this stuff, but it only reaches the one
who does the recordings and no one else? I'd like to get us
thinking seriously about establishing a web site where this great
stuff can be distributed.
Whatever you do, bring your mp3 players and voice recorders with
you to Orlando, so we can add to our already rich collection.
Let's all try to contribute something this year. Thanks.
