This is fantastic. At the banquet, I heard Shane's name announced, but there
was so much noise, I couldn't hear what he won. Now I know.

News flash!

My braille transcription non-profit business (Handid Braille Services
https://www.handid.org) is having a pretty good year.

To pay it forward, I donated two Orbit TI-84 plus talking calculator
<https://www.orbitresearch.com/product/orion-ti-84-plus/>s to the National
Association of Blind Students (NABS) and the Science and Engineering
Division (SED) of NFB, and built a raffle website for them to sell tickets
to raffle off the devices. Proceeds go to NABS and SED to help fund their
activities for the year.

These are state of the art handheld calculators that do all scientific
functions and scientific graphing, and allow you to navigate the graph with
voice over. It's pretty whizz-bang technology!

The raffle was drawn at the Closing Banquet at the just-finished NFB
Convention in Houston.

I am absolutely chuffed to report that one of the calculators was won by our
own Shane Ostermeier! When he bought the tickets, Shane wrote that he would
donate the calculator to ICBVI to help students. Putting the calculators in
the hands of keen students is *exactly* the kind of thing I wanted to
happen! Thanks Shane!!

I think it would fabulous if we could get a picture of Shane handing the
device to Beth and Earl at ICBVI with me in the background smiling from ear
to ear! That will be a worthy mention in the NFB-Idaho newsletter, and even
a topic for a video that goes along with others in "Idaho's Blind"!

Best wishes,

DON WINIECKI
