If you like chocolate half as much as I do, please take 2 minutes to sign this petition to Hershey's to remove lead and cadmium from their dark chocolate. And did you know Lili's is part of Hershey's and contains lead also?
And share this with others.
Thanks
Debbie

Deborah, thank you for standing with us in the ongoing fight to get harmful lead and cadmium out of dark chocolate bars. We're amping up the pressure on these chocolate makers, delivering nearly 60,000 of your petition signatures demanding they reduce these heavy metals in their products.

Now, a top executive at Hershey's told Reuters news that the company "would love to eradicate (lead and cadmium) completely" and is evaluating if there are steps the chocolate maker can take in the cleaning or sourcing of cocoa beans to reduce these heavy metals "even lower."

We think these statements by Hershey's chief financial officer are a positive step forward in our effort to get these risky metals out of chocolate! And we hope you'll join us by signing a petition to Hershey's leadership to publicly commit to a timetable to reduce heavy metals in its dark chocolate!<https://action.consumerreports.org/hersheychocolatepetition-nb-20230412-2?e=4233193ddcf41659ccb69b85c655ab0c&utm_source=cr&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20230412_hersheychocolatepetit&n=1&v=2694>

Hershey makes three of the dark chocolate bars that had high levels of either lead or cadmium in our tests. Those include Lily's Extremely Dark chocolate, with worrisome levels of both metals, and Lily's Extra Dark and Hershey's Special Dark, which also had high lead levels in our tests. CR used California's strict heavy metal standards as a benchmark to compare products, since there currently are no federal standards.

Consistent exposure to these heavy metals can affect brain development in children, and hypertension, kidney damage and reproductive issues in adults. But our tests found that five chocolate bars made by other companies had relatively low levels of lead and cadmium - meaning Hershey should be able to do the same!

Hershey is the fifth largest chocolate company in the world. If we can convince Hershey to follow through and commit to reducing lead and cadmium in its chocolate, then other manufacturers will likely follow suit! Send a message now to Hershey urging it to follow up on these statements and make a commitment!<https://action.consumerreports.org/hersheychocolatepetition-nb-20230412-2?e=4233193ddcf41659ccb69b85c655ab0c&utm_source=cr&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20230412_hersheychocolatepetit&n=3&v=2694>

Thank you for continuing to work with us on this important fight to get risky heavy metals out of our food. If you haven't yet, please share this email with friends and family who also are chocolate lovers so they can act, too!
