Yes you can use this slicer for nearly anything. I have used it toslice breads, fruitslike grapes and olives. I have seen them used for eggs and cheese, as well.

Does anybody know if you can slice a bialy with it? I like them, but I have never tried to slice one of those, and they are thinner than most bagels. Pam.

Has anyone used the bagel slicer for anything besides bagels? Could it be used for other things? Could you slice other breads with it?

Hmm, it’s hard to explain… it’s sort of like two small plates connected with a hinge. It opens like a clam shell. You open the unit, put your bagel on the bottom half, close it and then slide the knife between the two plates and cut the bagel. When the knife gets to the hinge, it stops and you know you’re done.

So back to the plates. They’re not really plates but thicker plastic with a spring loaded inner portion. So when you place the bagel on the spring-loaded portion, and close the unit (the top half also has a spring-loaded portion) the bagel gets clamped into place and the two “plates” can then be closed. When you slice the bagel. You hold down the top plate and the bagel stays in place so it will cut the bagel equally.

Thanks for the items. Can you describe the "close and cut?"

Thanks!

Thanks, I would be interested in hearing what items people like best.

I have found that the Pampered Chef Close & Cut set is absolutely fabulous if you want to slice a bagel evenly.

The mesh produce bags are nice when getting veggies from the farmer’s market

And another favorite is the Modular Sheet Pans. We use the two smallest pans to make individual nachos with the works… that way we can each layer our favorite ingredients on the chips and place in the oven to heat.
