Rena,

With a knittting machine without a motor, once it is set up and threaded you
push the carriage across the width of your piece with your hand and walla
that row is knitted. Now with a motor attached as Becky has it goes back and
forth faster and continuously. So you can knock items out quickly.

With some of the computerized machines you can put in sweater sizes and
designs and it will automaticly do the decreases and shapings. With some of the
computerized or even not computerized, but punchcard machines they will do
designs work, too.

I have a friend that has a machine with the motor and computerized and she
can set it up to make a 2 color picture and put baby's name, birth and whatever
else you want it to say. She then can walk away from it and it will
automatically knit out a blanket. Just too cool.
