Cindy,? Thanks for the encouragement. Both my eye doctor and my general care physician have said they will be willing to support my application, so I do feel encouraged. Now I have to fill out the form and set the wheels in motion.

Cathy,

One, I'm sure the other MA residents on list can help you but if your doctor
is filling out forms then this would be your paratransit system.

Two, if you cannot drive, even though you technically don't have the numbers
for legal blindness, you should qualify for this. The only thing might be a
problem is the 3/4 mile rule. You stated the lack of public transportation
in your area. You need to live within 3/4 mile of the nearest fixed route
bus stop. This does include express routes that have very limited pick up
times. Be sure to play up the fact that your vision is hindering your
ability to get around.

Sometimes, we need to seem a little more helpless with the paratransit
evaluators to make sure we qualify. Do not feel bad about doing this. If you
do not have other means of transportation, then you need this service. I am
sure that you have worked your whole life contributing your tax dollars so
do not feel bad about using this service now.

You may also need to coach your eye doctor on what to put down on the forms.

You can do this and remember we are all standing behind you. I want to see
you go wherever you want whenever you want and not to be limited by your
lack of driving. Good luck and let us all know how it goes.

Feel free to contact me off-list if you have any more questions.
