[Nfb-krafters-korner] Knitting and Martha

After all the posts regarding the sets of interchangeable needles, I plan on
getting a set, as they sound so useful and convenient

I have just finished tuning into the Martha show. I would love to attempt
that scarf they had on show that ruffled up to form a warm collar or
lengthened out to become a long scarf - very pretty and such a feminine
design. Joyce, I wonder what your thoughts might be as it if this scarf
could be a project for our knitting class sometime in the future? Also those
tiny little sweaters and clothing items that lady crafted, how fine a work
that must be, some people are so gifted with all they create with craft.

Best wishes. Valerie

Eileen,

Thank you for clueing me into something. I have tried a few times to learn
the magic loop technique, and have gotten very frustrated with it as it
seemed like my cable just was not flexible enough. I thought the problem
was me, but now I think it is the needle I was trying to use.

Thanks,
Annette

Hi Annette:

I'm not Joyce, but in my last post I mentioned the "Harmony" interchangeable
set offered by knitpicks. They are made of birch wood and very comfortable
in the hand. If you have some sight, the Harmony needle tips are color
coated, so it might make determining size a little easier for a vip
knittter. I like the Denise set a lot too, & are also comfortable in my
hands because they are plastic. The main difference between the two
different sets for me are the cables.

I use magic loop very frequently for knitting in the round and I like the
slim, slick, flexible cables in the Harmony wood set. I can do magic loop
with the Denise set as well, but the cable is thicker (at least it feels it)
and stitches don't slide along the Denise cables as easily.

Like the Boid needles, the Harmony tips can unscrew from the cables, but
here to I check every so often and tighten them up. On the other hand I
have had the Denise cable just tug right out of the tips once when trying on
a knit top and I lost the stitches. So there can be issues with any needle
you use, but if you are aware and pay attention problems can be avoided.

I rate the Denise & the Harmony wood comprable sets ... both very nice. Be
aware if going with knitpicks, they also make an "Options" set that is
nickel plated metal.

Eileen
