[Nfb-krafters-korner] slippers pattern

Hi Joyce and Valerie --
I just wanted to say that the slipper pattern I sent to the list earlier
this year has 3 strands of yarn knitted together so the whole slipper is
thick and lasts a long time. You could get fancy and do something special
with the sole to make it thicker than the rest of the slipper -- maybe use
tougher and thicker yarn or treat it with rubberizing. I just wanted to make
a plug for the slippers I posted about as they are warm, durable and cute to
look at -- the heel is garter stitch and the rest is flat stitch, and when
you are done with the knitting, it all curles itself into the shape of a
little shoe, making it easy to sew the seams.
Just a thought.
Happy mom's day!

Hello Joyce, I have never had a "felted" item to know exactly what the yarn
texture is like, ,but can imagine how it would fee from your past posts. .
I've had another look at the slippers and think it is maybe two 12 ply yarns
knitted together for the sole, then the rest seems to be just one thread of
yarn. This extra thick sole makes them very sturdy, some knitted slippers
I've had in the past have developed holes.

I'd love to be part of the felting class when it happens.
All the best. Valerie

Vallerie,

Are the bottoms of these slippers seem as though you can not feel the
knitted stitches? I am wondering if they might be felted. That would make

them feel thicker as the felting tightens the weave up. I don't know if
they
may just felt the bottom sole and maybe use a washable yarn for the top of
the slipper, but that could be done.

I have to plan on giving that felting class for everyone so you can give it
 a try.

Joyce
