That's a chalange.  Maybe spot it.  If you wash it, how about cold and do not put it in the drier.  I think the drier would melt the plastic.  I have never tried, before.
If anyone tries, let us all know your outcome.

PS: Is there a way to wash a coaster without wearing out the stitching?  I suppose that would depend on the yarn, but the yarn I am using is a little on the fuzzy side already, and I can imagine what it would look like if I let it go through the washing machine...
Perhaps Woolite and a tub of warm water would do the drick.  Since I'm not planning to use fabric glue it's fortunately not necessary to work around that...
