I usually just go along and pick up with theleft hand needle and slip it on 
 the right hand and knit it.  Keep in mind how many stitches you need to  
pick up.  You canb go around and feel and count before you begin to figure  
out if you need to put or skip around to come out with the needed number of  
stitches.
 
I like to put 2 stitches in corners or where it needs a little filling  in.
