The one I use for the Webb of Hope can be done on either straight or
circular needles.
Straight needles:
Size 8 needles
Adult: CO 80 stitches, Child: CO 60 stitches
Work K2, P2 ribbing for 8-1/2 to 10 inches for adult and 3 inches shorter
for child.
Decreasing:
Row 1: K2-together, P2-together, 40 stitches remaining
Row 2: Knit across
Row 3: K2-together, P2-together, 20 stitches remaining
Row 4: Knit across
Row 5: K2-together, P2-together, 10 stitches remaining
Row 6: Knit across
Row 7: K2-together, P2-together, 5 stitches remaining
DO not bind off!
Give yourself at least a 18 to 20 inch tail and cut yarn.Slip stitches as to
knit from your right needle back onto your left needle. Thread yarn on yarn
needle and slip stitches from knitting needle onto yarn needle and then pull
the yarn needle through and close up the stitches. Fold the hat together
and stitch together. Turn hat inside out and fold up brim of hat.
I prefer stocking caps with wide brims to allow ample length to fit down
over the ears.
