Hi Dick;
How about a large Christmas card. Do you have one of those wheels that can make raised lines? If so, you can make a tree on the inside of the frunt, so it will be tactual on the frunt. Then he can decorate the tree like what he was doing before and give it to his parents. You could also cut out a large tree or just a triangle out of green for him to decorate. Help him to write his name if he does not know how. His parents will be real happy to get something from their little boy!

Hello everyone! Great to write you all again.
I wanted to let you guys know, since you've been quite supportive that today, Will finished the collage! As I told you, it had been several weekends that we hadn't seen one another, or if we did, we didn't do it for much time. Due to colds and going out of town and such, today was the first day we were able to spend some hours together.

Believe it or not, it's pretty sunny here, so we were able to go outside for a while and go to the near by park so that he could play on the swings and whatever else he wanted. He's definitely more of a swinger. Not many kids were at the park today, so he had a swing to himself for a while. He did take his cane. A couple of times, when we'd begin getting ready to walk, he still kept it folded and in his pocket. I told him it would be a lot better for him to have it out. I guess that when he went with my folks for Thanksgiving, neither they nor my sister really did anything to get him to incorporate the cane whenever they went out because he said that he was told it got in the way. Oh well, I'll help change that.

However, when we got home and ate some lunch, I asked if he wanted to finish the collage, and he said he did. He asked if I would help him, and I told him I would. Between the two of us, we got the rest of the little scraps and materials and put them on the paper that got put on to cardboard. There wasn't too much left for him to do, as it wasn't too big, but it was enough to keep us entertained for a little while, anyway! He did get a little better at finding places to put the materials and finding spaces where they could be pasted. Good for him. Sometimes, watching him, I wanted to (and sometimes did) help him and show him where would be good. But, he was able to do more on his own and get them pasted.

Oh, he was happy when we were done! He said he'd never really done anything like that before, because all they really did in school was to draw. That's why when you recommended doing some kind of idea like this, it really fit the bill! He could finally say he had a project for himself. And, with some of the items we used, I did talk to him about colors, just so he knew a bit of what they were.

I think he's believing me a bit more about how fun this stuff can be and that not everything has to be completely perfect and neat and stuff like that. In fact, he asked if we were going to do more things like these, and I asked if he wanted to do more. He said he would. This was a great step for him!

The pasting part was a little better. He still had initial leeriness, but that wasn't too big of a deal.

So...one project done, and many more to come!! Any advice or opinions on what could be next would be fantastic for us. I kind of think it might be a good thing to build on the things we've done so far. I also want him to be able to use his hands again.

Dick

What a great time! We're thrilled to have finished and I'm happy that it went well.
