What shape is one.  Is it just like a jumbo scarf?  I have never seen one layed out so I could tell the true shape.

Hi Mary,

The number of stitches and rows for a prayer shawl will depend on your yarn, your needle size and the size of the end product.  If you knit a 5 inch sample square using the yarn and needles you plan to use for the project, you can figure out how many stitches and rows per inch.  Then do the math to figure out how many stitches and rows it will take to complete the project.


Calculating your number of stitches and rows per inch is called your gauge.
They teach entire classes on calculating it, so do realize what I've told you here is just the tip of the ice burgh.
