Another idea is to use a split ring with a 3x5 card system. Keep a card list in Braille with the colors weight etc. that you have on hand. You can keep the colors organized by shades. When you want to do a project, check your card system out to see if you have any of the color you are wanting to use. Update your card as you use up leftover yarn and add to your card file when you purchase new yarn.

Well other options that could help you are to make up Braille index cards
with the yarn brand & name along with its weight. Then place that
particular type of yarn in one of those sweater storage type bags and put
the Brailled index card in with it. If you are not open to learning Braille
I suppose you could use a Pen Friend type label and put that in or on the
bag.
Personally, I think the low tech options are the best thing for this type of
labeling because technology keeps changing and what works today & is the in
thing may not work tomorrow. At least with Braille you just need your
fingers to read & figure out what's in your yarn stash.
