[Nfb-krafters-korner] Mid-week question - color?

This is where having sighted friends and working, helps.  When I am in doubt, I take a few colors to work and ask my friend which would go the best.  A few times I have saved the label and had her buy another scain of the same color.  She had the name, number and also saw the yarn, before going.  
I also had her buy me some bright red, but I made sure I did not mix the previous red and the new red.  It has something to do with the dye lot.  Items not made at the same time, might be a tiny bit lighter or darker, even though they say Red Heart Red.

One problem with going by manufacturer's color names.  I always remember the time I had ordered a yarn on line and the color was simply "Mauve."  I love mauve.  Boy, was I surprised when the yarn I received was brown and yes it very clearly had "Mauve" on the label.  I always think of mauve as a pinky/lavender muted color, not brown.  I've had some other surprises going by the naming conventions of companies so am now always hesitant to order based on that.

Often, I will call customer service if ordering by phone or get store help (usually pretty decent) and try to explain what I might be looking for.  If I am trying to match I will describe the color I have and let the phone rep know that I know its a difficult thing to do and I won't hold them responsible or blame them or the store if its not exact, but I do encourage them to try and give the color help and describe itto me in those cases when I can't get to a store.

Usually, if I'm just working with 1 single color I'm not that fussy since I too can picture a lot of colors based on memory.  It those instances when I need a trim in a coordinating or contrasting color or shade that it becomes more problematic.
