[Nfb-krafters-korner] Question about plastic

I bought some shallow containers that have clasps at each end to lock them.  I found them at I think, giant.  I use them for beads and to stand my items up for display.  I noticed, at my craft table last week, I could still smell the plastic oder of the containers.
I wash everything with dish soap and or sanitary wipes, before use.  It depends on the size.  good thing my items are in plastic.
I also have noticed, some plastic bags have a charcole smell.  I let them air out, before use.  Is this an oder eater smell or will it be obsorbed by the items?
