If a person is vegetarian, I would think they would eat a lot more cheese and noodles. I have changed over to brown rice and wheat noodles and lite cheese. It is very hard to get lite cheese when out, so I avoide cheese and fried foodes, most of the time, when eating out. When having a salid, I try to remember to ask for lite dressing and ask for it on the side. When getting an order of chinese food, I usually take half home, so I can enjoy another meal. I try to order from the low cal menu or order something baked or broiled. I get fish, out, a lot, since I eat chicken a lot at home. Mixing fresh fruit and lit yogart or apple sauce will be more filling. I like eating, for a snack, something that is crunchy and takes a while to eat. A soft cerial bar is gone in a few seconds where a bag of pretzles, a bag of nuts and raisins, or a crunchy bar, sure will last longer and satisfy you more and you will not crave something else.
Even some cerials are good.

Wow, Linda River Woman, you're very busy. I didn't know you were a vegetarian but I'm vegan so it's similar. I love everything you said about exercising. I'm the same way. It takes me a lot of work just to put my shoes on and do it. Even just to keep up on my mobility work and take a walk is difficult sometimes. My husband is great, too. Since he's a mobility instructor (maybe I've told you that before), he really helps to keep me moving. I don't think I could have walked all over the hotel at the last National Convention were it not for his help and the helprof the instructors at the Louisiana Center for the Blind. You've really inspired me to work harder on my weight loss. You're right, most people don't know that vegetarians or vegans can have weight loss problems. It has a lot more to do with other things than just eating, as I'm sure you've discovered.
Keep up the good work. Please let us on the list know about your progress.
Do you have more weight to lose or have you met your goal?

Regards,

Denise

Lynda,

>From what I can see, your work is beautiful! However, can you explain
>to me
what encrusted bead work is. All this time I thought you were talking about clay that you were "encrusting" with beads, but these amulets don't appear to be made of clay.

Denise, it works for me! lol
Losing weight is not an easy job - and it is a full time job that never ends. I have my own battles with that, too. Even thought I am a life long vegetarian, most folks do not realize that vegetarians also have weight issues. I exercise at least three days a week at the gym, and I love to exercise AFTER it is finished because my day goes 100 percent better, I am energized, my mind is clearer, and I just feel so much more positive about everything. But the hard part is getting UP and getting my shoes on and actually leaving the house. I am very lucky because the gym is just a short walk from my house, but I could not do it without the help of my husband because I would have to cross a very busy road and of course I cannot see to

do that. But, my gym is wonderful. After I lost my sight, the owner of the gym visited me, brought me a talking watch, and some other things she thought might help me. And, when I was ready to come back to the gym, she went around and helped me figure out how I can use it without sight. We put bump dots on some things, like the StairMaster so I could know where the controls were and do it myself. I have no problem with the free weights as I

can easily feel them, and they are always in their exact spot on the rack, so I need to help with anthing at the gym at all and many people who do not know me never suspect I cannot see them except for their shadow presence.

I can recommend a very wonderful nutrition program that is available in a book - for those who want more than just a little bit of exercise. I absolutely love the book _Body for Life_ by Bill Phillips. It is a more intensive but not difficult program - it is cardio three days a week, and upper/lower body work out three days a week. This is my favorite program, and I started using it about 9 years ago. But it IS an intensive program and

not for anyone who is not really serious about becoming FIT for life. It is called a "High Intensity Interval Training program." That's your clue. haha

As for crafting: I am working all day, every day right now making encrusted

beadworked talismans for my one person show at a gallery/museum that will open on Sept. 9. I will attach two photos of recent ones, for those who can see with adaptive equipment such as zoomtext. With the show only 2 weeks away, I still have lots of STITCHING to do yet. We hang the show next week - I try not to even think about it, but just kekep my nose to the BEADS.
