[Nfb-krafters-korner] Fabric question

Agreed
Often the fabric is folded so the right side is on the inside while on a
bolt.
Also, before one uses the fabric in a project, it should be washed. This
way the shrinking is done before the finished project is made. Otherwise,
if say in a quilt for example, you use several different pieces of fabric,
from several different fabrics to create the color designs in the quilt,
then wash the fabric for the first time, it is very possible that the
fabrics will all shrink at different rates causing puckers, and other issues
with the quilt.

Now That is not always true about the right side of the fabric on a bolt
of fabric being face side out. I do not know if they have changed things
in the last 13 years, but maybe. As when I use to purchase fabrics when I
could see there was some fabrics that the right side was folded together
and then put on the bolts. They would always have a display of those
fabrics
with the corners folded back so you could see the pretty side.
I think it best to ask for some help and then mark it in some way either
pin, safety pin, masking tape or something so then you know for sure.
Some fabrics you can feel the right side, but not all fabrics you can do
that.

Dixie,
When you first purchase your fabric you can mark it. The "pretty" side on
fabric when on the bolt it is always on the outside. That is the same way
with gift wrap. When the fabric is cut the pretty side will be on the
outside. When you get home, you can label it in some way. A Braille card
or
a special safety pin method that you know. We use two stick pins together
on the front side of the fabric. This tells us it is the Pretty side.

Ok, so how does a person who is total keep track of the right and wrong
sides of the fabrics? Obviously the first cut is the easy one to figure
out, but for quilting, I have a closet full of scraps. This sounds like a
project for the sighted?
