[Nfb-krafters-korner] Some Thoughts

Hi everyone,

I have been reading the messages concerning the recordings lately. It seems reasonable that teachers be able to maintain the rights to their materials if they choose. It would seem that unless each teacher signed an agreement expressly giving KK the rights, then it would remain the property of the teacher. It is also understandable that the division would like to share the wealth of knowledge in these recordings. Maybe as a compromise, there could be an additional line added to the proposal that teachers fill out asking if they are willing to let KK have the rights to the class recording and documents. If the teacher agrees to relinquish the rights to KK, then that particular class would be available for future sale and distribution. If not, then the students who can make it to that class benefit and the teacher is still making a contribution. KK could go through previous classes and obtain agreements with those instructors to acquire the rights. This would create some extra work for someone, but it would resolve this issue and all participants would be legally protected.

This may not be the most ideal solution, but hopefully it can be the beginning to an open and respectful dialog to resolving it.

Krafters Korner is a valuable resource and we have to ensure that it remains so for blind crafters and teachers alike.

Take care,

Lucy
