It was only to teach the chain stitch to a newbie......not to go beyond that point.

Haven't I heard of finger crocheting.  I am not sure how I would do it  
beyond a chain, but I am sure it is possible.  You don't use a crochet  hook, 
you do use only your fingers.  It will come out being a loose  crochet, but 
it will work. 
 
I can picture in my mind how to do a chain and a single crochet, but going  
into other stitches in crochet with your fingers are beyond me.

grabbing ahold of  the WY.  Pull the WY through the loop.  Your fingers can grab
