[Nfb-krafters-korner] Many thanks to all of you

I tried sending this message last week but I never saw it so I'm not sure it
got to the list. Anyway, I'd like to say thanks to all of you for your
wonderful suggestions on some projects that my seniors here in Alaska might
do. I am so impressed with your creativity and enthusiasm about so many
kinds of crafts. I know it is never too late to start but I've passed a lot
of years without doing these fun things. I know I loved knitting as a child
and started a couple projects (never finished a baby sweater), when my kids
were little. Anyway, thanks again and I'll keep reading your posts and if I
decide to do something that was suggested, I may get in touch with someone
off line.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Lucas

There were not rubberbands holding any of the towel animals together on
either of the cruises we were on. Of course, this does not mean that there
aren't any creations that require rubberbands.

Wish it was, but no. it's different. You use rubber bands and things I
think.

Hey joseli

Isn't that just Origami with towels or wash cloths? You can do that!

How about a Monday Night Origami session? You owe us one.

Cruise ships such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean fold towels and
washcloths into various types of animals as a surprise for the kids every
evening. On our most recent cruise, they made a bat and hung it from a
hanger in the middle of our room. At some point during the cruise they
have a
demonstration of how they fold them. Unfortunately, I have not gotten to
one of these sessions. In the back of my head, I think that I came across
some type of booklet on how to make these animals. I'll keep my eye out
and let you know if I find something.

Carolyn

When you say that they make such things like puppy dogs, etc out of wash
cloths, do they do this by just folding them? Do they need to cut and
sew the wash cloth?

I really would like to find a teacher to teach us how to fold wash cloths,
napkins or diapers into these creative items that I have come across in the
past.

We just had a baby shower for my daughter and she was given the I think it
was a cake, but it have diapers all rolled up and then decorated with baby
type things. I never did get to touch it to figure it out.

I think they do them for all guests. My parents did not have any kids with
them and brought back a picture of a monkey (a large bath towel) hanging
from the ceiling.

Hi,
When I crochet I use Simply Soft yarn. It doesn't fray too bad. More later.
Peace,

Does anyone have a good suggested yarn to practice with crocheting?
I had some help from a friend yesterday and believe I have the basic
idea but am fraying the yarn.
Thanks.

Hi there,
I found the two pages on fabric origami I wrote about in an earlier message.
http://www.origami-resource-center.com/fabric-folding.html
Different types of fabric folding is described here, including one or two
ideas for facecloths, right at the end. Unfortunately, like with a lot of
craft instructions, I think that many of the resources mentioned on this
page might be reliant on pictures or diagrams to make the instructions
understandable, although I have not checked out the resources. So, if
someone finds good instructions, please let me know.
The second link is to the fabric origami workshop.
I think they sell kits, which might be helpful if someone really wants to
have a go at learning the craft.
http://www.fabricorigami.com
One thing I made a few months ago, and that is related to this subject, is
an origami purse. Basically, you fold a square in a certain way and sew a
few straight lines, and in no time you have quite a nice little bag or
purse. If anybody is interested in the instructions, let me know and I will
post privately or on list.
For this type of project one could use bandannas or fat quarters, which come

in many different colors and designs, and which are already cut into squares

with the edges finished with trim or serged. For the handles of fabric bags,

I often use ribbon or cord instead of thin strips of the fabric, since
cutting straight and turning the thin strips are not always easy.
Lindy

Hi Lindy,

That origami purse sounds really cool and fun. I do origami myself so
I would love to learn if you can post the instructions.

Thanks
Minh

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty
recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity:
but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on
their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible." T. E. Lawrence
