It all depends on what I am doing and how many kinds of beads I am using. I found a clear plastic serving tray that I usually keep under my work when making a bracelet or necklace. This catches most dropped beads. Now in the catigory of saftypin beading, we use a lot more types of beads. Someone on the list came up with the idea of using a snack tray. I found 2 at Walmart for $5.00, each. They have 4 outer sections and a smaller inner, round one. Our beads are usually numbered so I put them 1-4 on the outside of the tray and 5 in the middle. I used to use the second tray for the finished pins, but in harder projects I have had to use both trays for my beads. I put my finished pins in zip locked bags and lined them in order on the lid of a large box. These snack trays have a snap on lid and can be moved around. They will stack if kept on a shelf.
My tip is make sure your containers have a snap tight lid so beads will not come spilling out and make sure they are securely closed.
I have tried storage boxes that have removable sections aned I have found the sections slide and beads get mixed up, unless you put them in a bag, first. Containers with nonremovable sections are fine, but just do not turn them upside down or you will have another catastriphy!

Tip of the Week for 6/10/11

Category: beading, other

When working on a beading project that uses different colors of beads, how do you keep the beads organized so that you can work in a color pattern?

Submit your ideas for future Tip of the Week questions to amcarr1 at verizon.net

Keep in mind that with any response you post to the NFB Krafters Korner's list, it is accessible by anyone through the list archives. No tip is too big or too small. If you are using someone else's idea, please give them credit. Our goal is to compile these tips into an organized list to be put up on our website.
