Denise;
You could easily combine safty pin beading with making flower arrangements. You can make baskets of all kinds out of safty pins and decorate them with your own flower arrangements. I made a rectangular basket for my second project and I hope a round vase will just fit inside the basket. We even made a heart basket and a large easter basket that has a handle and flowers could be put inside instead of candy.

            I remember when I learned how to knit. It was in middle school and we had to lern how to crochet or knit and sew. I could see well back then with glasses and attended a regular school in Brookville, Pennsylvania.
I'm left handed so I had difficulty learning to knit until another girl worked with me but I don't remember how she taught me to get around being left handed. In addition, I learned to make jewelry at aresidential training center for the blind in Daytona Beach, Florida. Then, I continued it at a health institute in W. Palm Beach, Florida. I also love silk flower arranging and I learned how to do it at the place in Daytona Beach. All of this learning took place between 2001 and 2009.

The tip I learned with knitting was not to start with too difficult of a project. The tip I learned in jewelry was how to arrange the beads on a tray so I wouldn't loose any of them and to be creative with the shapes, sizes, and colors. Just because I'm blind, doesn't mean I have to just use one pattern or one shape or size of bead. I used to think that until I made some bracelets and necklaces to match. My favorite gem is rose quartz crystal. I made a very beautiful necklace with a heart in the middle and a pair of earrings to match it. the woman who taught the class made a bracelet like my necklace and I bought it from her. So, I have the whole set now. I hope that wasn't too much information. I enjoyed sharing that with you.

Regards,

Denise

Oh, I've got an idea for the question of the week. Does anyone do several crafts and combine them? How have they combined them? I'd like to know about that. I know I'd like to combine my knitting and beading and if I ever learn safety pin beading, I'd like to combine that with flower arranging.

Tip of the Week for 6/20/11
Same as question posted on 6/19, but with a different subject line.

Category:  All Crafts

Have you ever taught someone to do your favorite craft? Do you remember when you first learned your favorite craft? If yes, what was the tip that helped you learn the craft? For example mine is for when I teach someone to knit. Use a needle size between 8 and 10, and use a 4 ply yarn or thicker that does not have a halo (fuzziness or texture).

Submit your ideas for future Tip of the Week questions to amcarr1 at verizon.net

Keep in mind that with any response you post to the NFB Krafters Korner's list, it is accessible by anyone through the list archives. No tip is too big or too small. If you are using someone else's idea, please give them credit. Our goal is to compile these tips into an organized list to be put up on our website.

Annette
