[Nfb-krafters-korner] In Search of a New Craft

Hi,

I'm new to the list and am excited about the opportunity to learn and share about crafting with others who have vision impairments. I haven't found a real focus yet and I wonder if there are clay workers, beaders and knitters on the list. 

I have always wanted to learn to knit. I have seen a product called the nifty knitter and would be interested in knowing if others use it. Would it be good for a beginner? I'm considering purchasing the new book for blind knitters but I don't think it discusses the loom. I'm in Texas and it's already warming up, but I figure if I start now, I might be able to finish a scarf by December. 
  
This winter I started playing with clay and it is fun to see what can be made. I borrowed a book and downloaded a few projects from a clay site and have been thinking about taking a class from a local artist. 

 My last trip to the library I picked up a book on beading and the librarian says, "I thought we were doing clay." I said, "We are but I guess we're multimedia."

My first love is anything to do with paper, printing and books so I'm also very interested in paper crafts. At Christmas time I went to a crafts gallery featuring handmade items designed by people with disabilities. There was a display of items done by a visually impaired woman who does quilling. I bought one of her beautiful magnets to serve as inspiration. 

I look forward to any thoughts and suggestions from others with similar interests.
