Welcome Karen,

I have found this list to be exciting and a great way to get help with old projects or learn new techniques.
I use the knifty knitter and I love it. There are some great books on bookshare with beginning projects. The website that sells the product also has some great instructions.
I also knit with needles and again I have learned a great deal from here.
I especially love safety pin beading...which is beading with acrylic beads and safety pins  to form projects like lighthouses, hot air balloons and many other treasures.
