Subject: Alphapointe Tactile Tours at the Nelson
Attention Alpha Arts crew!
I am pleased to announce that Alphapointe is collaborating with the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art throughout 2011 to provide monthly tours of the museum designed specifically for people who are blind or low vision. The museum joins with Alphapointe in this endeavor to celebrate Alphapointe's 100th year of service. These tours will allow for increased access to museum exhibits and hand-on access to many of the works. Docents have been trained to assist with facilitation and recorded audio description is also available.
The monthly schedule is attached; however, I would very much like to see the arts group represented at the first tour on January 15th, 2011. These monthly tours will occur on Saturdays and begin at 10:30am. Transportation to the Nelson is available from the Alphapointe campus and the same return trip is available as well.
I recognize that this means meeting two Saturdays in a row but I really want this group to have the first access, to impress the museum with your knowledge and talents, and to help spread the word to the entire visually impaired community, following your experience.
Please contact me about your availability for this event.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Did you get feedback from the art class about going to the first and second tactile tours at the Nelson? We have to register- they can accommodate 9 people with vision loss and 9 sighted guides total- and we have to register by calling 816-751-1ART. The tour is called the Alphapointe Tactile Tour. Dates include January 15- arrive at 10:30am, February 19, March 26. I will attach the full schedule for your review. Let me know- we might need to figure out transportation if they want to meet here or can meet at Nelson. Thank you.
