Terrence you can get in a fabric store this web type stuff that you can  
fuse with an iron on to the piece of fabric that you want to applique.  It  is 
best that you cut it smaller then the size of what you are  appliqueing   
You then fuse the piece to the fabric and turn under the  edges and blind 
stitch in place. [no pun intended]  That is why you need to  make the fusing 
web smaller, so you can turn the edges under and stitch in  place.  You can 
also fuse it right to the edges and iron into place and  then you can do a 
blanket stitch on the outside over the edges of the applique  or sig xag over 
the edges with a sewing machine.
