[Nfb-krafters-korner] My Macomber Loom

Well, there is a good memory for me brought out of the mothballs!

When I was in college I took two courses on working with both the desktop
sized and the floor looms. we did everything from making the sheep's wool
into yarn, to dying it, to winding the yarn for placing on the looms, to
setting it up on the loom in the pattern using those metal things with the
holes in them, to using the shuttle to make our projects. I did several
samplers on the desk looms to work on different patterns and colors as well
as a blanket for a double bed on the floor loom. I could see colors at the
time which did help with the setup, but did most of it by touch, and it is
quite a process but very relaxing to shuttle back and forth and to see and
feel the pattern coming along.

Thanks for the memory. A good memory during a very difficult time in my
life.

Encourage them to teach visually impaired/blind folks to work on this
loom. We will be having hopefully some folks from CT that work with the
blind
on floor looms speaking to us after the holidays.

Just wanted to share two things this morning with you.
First, I found a HOME for my treasure, my Macomber Loom. It is the
cadillac of weaving looms, and mine was a large one with a 48 inch weaving
space,
and 6 harneses. I had to find a new home for it after losing my sight
because I needed my weaving room for my tech stuff and made my weaving
studio
into my office and where I run everything from.

I wanted to find the perfect home for my loom - and I believe I did. I
have gifted it to the Harmony Museum in Harmony, PA. They have the Weaver's

House on the museum grounds there and the weavers there are so thrilled to
get this loom. It is far beyond anything they have been using there - and
they said they would be making it the centerpiece of their weaving program.
I
am thankful that my treasured loom has gone into the museum program so
that it can be used and that others can learn to weave with it, too. Next
week, I am doing a Christmas Market at the museum,. so I hope to go visit
my
loom and see her in her new home.
