[Nfb-krafters-korner] speakers and creative ideas

The clay I wrote about works to make the coiled pots. You do have to use some water to "hold" the layers together. Also scratching the surface of one piece to attach it to another piece is a good idea. When it dries, you can paint it!

Well, I've been reading all of the posts on using clay and I'd be interested
in learning more. I also had a bad experience with clay or rather ceramics.
I've had good experiences, too. It really depends on the teacher. I'd
really like to learn how to make some coiled pots or little trays with
rounded sides to them. I don't have access to a kiln at my home but I think
they have one at the Braille Institute. I'd like to learned the basics from
y'all on the list, though before trying that. I'm intrigued with the
concept of self-hardening clay. I tried it at the llast National Convention
but I'm wondering if it's as sturdy as the fired kind. I'm sure the topic
of making things with clay would make a good chat or two or three depending
on how involved the chats get.

Regards,

Denise

It would be interesting to learn about what other options we could use
doing clay. The kiln is something that intimmidates me. That I would need
to
go out and find a place, transportation, teacher willing to work with me[I
know I am wining now], but if I could play a little at home by myself, then
that might spark my interest. Clay is such a tactile thing I would like
to give it a try.

I do not have experience with non-fired clay but maybe someone else here
does? If not, I can begin to investigate and we can explore it
together...ok? Maybe someone here has a lot more experience with that than
I
have - I only used it once in a classromm at the college, for a specific
project, but I can begin to check that out.
