This is done with clay that will go into a kiln. I am not sure if you would
do it for self drying clay.
To wedge, push the heel of your hands into the clay, like you would if you
were making a bread dough. Keep on wedging it until it is very pliable. This
prepares the clay for working it - makes the fibers in the clay lengthen and
bond together - it makes the clay very workable. Also, it helps to
eliminate air bubbles which would blow up in a kiln and ruin your piece.
