[Nfb-krafters-korner] strange tool

Becky,

It sounds like a tool I have called a punch hook. Mine does not have the
blue stopper on the shaft. Does the shaft have a pointed tip below the
hole? My tool you thread your yarn through a hole close to the handle, down
through the shaft and through the second handle. I took colored burlap
material and stretched it over a square or rectangular wooden frame and
tacked it snug in the back. You then took the threaded tool and punched it
through the material and then pulled it bac out again and this left a loop
of your yarn on the other side. You then could make designs, make pictures
that had a rug like quality which could also be further sculpted by trimming
the loop ends shorter to add texture.

Once you were done, you then removed the material from the frame, added a
backing and could make a pillow, fit a piece of that thicker stiff poster
board and hang it on the wall or even make multiple pieces for a rug or
larger wall hanging. I learned to do this at the Virginia Rehab Center for
the Blind in Richmond.
