Welcome to the group Mark! I too am sighted and have learned a lot of great alternatives from the members of this group. One thing I have done when trying to learn is to put on some sleep shades and try the craft without my vision. It makes me aware of alternatives that I need to use or come up with.

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] Model car kits for the blind.

Hello,

My name is Mark Crowel, and I am preparing to produce model car kits that
can be built entirely by feel. I need feedback from the list members about
this.

In a way, I am the handicapped one here, because I am fully sighted, and
need help from a sightless perspective. When writing the initial
description for my model kits, I wrote that help from a sighted person would be
needed to apply the glue and align the rolling wheels. This was because I was
not aware of glue applications that are used by the blind. There was no
condescension intended, and I apologize if it came out that way. I am likely
to make social blunders in this community, but they will not be intentional.

Each model kit is composed of about twenty layers of profile cut
corrugated cardboard. I have a forum web site on which these models are described.

What is the best way for me to do the instructions? I do not have braille
embossing equipment, but I do know that equipment is available to convert
typing from a computer to a braille "printer". I could record spoken
instructions on audio tapes, if blank audio tapes are still available. I do not
have CD recording equipment. Perhaps the easiest way in the short term
would be to put the instructions in email form, and let your existing reading
equipment convert it to sound.

A brief background about me: I am a janitor by occupation. I am 60 years
old, and my wife Gale, and I, live in southwestern Michigan. We have no
children, but we have two cats and a dog.

Looking forward to your input. Thanks to all of you.

Mark Crowel
