How about ribbon? Then it could be part of the decoration with out having to
be removed.

If I was trying to do this and keep straight lines on a ball shape, I would 
 use masking tape and tape it on the ball by measuring the same distance 
down  from the top of the ball.  You could use the top edge of the tape for 
doing  one line of Braille and the bottom edge for a guide to do the next
line 
of  Braille.
