[Nfb-krafters-korner] Yarn for making afghans

Hi all.
I am planning to make an afghan by crocheting motif squares and putting them together to form the big afghan. The book I am using recommends medium weight worsted yarn. However, I think., although I am not completely sure that this May result in a product that maybe too heavy for my liking. I am looking for a yarn that is soft, but light. If anyone has suggestions that would be awesome.
