[Nfb-krafters-korner] Yarn for making afghans

To change the density of your finished project you can change the yarn, or
your needle size. If you use the recommended needle size with a thinner
yarn your project will be looser, thus being less dense, but the finished
project might be smaller than stated in the pattern. If you use the
recommended yarn for the project and you increase your needle size, again
your stitches will be looser and the final project will not feel as dense as
the original project but the finished size will probably be larger. Needle
and yarn changes can also impact the appearance of the stitch pattern. A
lace pattern or cable pattern can look very different when made with a
larger needle than recommended by the pattern. None of these changes or end
results are a bad thing if your final project comes out the way you wanted.
This is a good example of how gauge impacts your project and it comes down
to swotching.

So the bottom line is to swotch! If you like how the swotch turns out, go
for it using that needle size and yarn for your project.

Now let me get back to answering your question. Whenever possible I go to a
store where I can "pet" the yarn to find a yarn that is what I am looking
for. I do not know much about natural fiber, but some of my favorite
acrylic yarns are Vana's Choice, Vana Baby, Vana's Colors, Lion Brand Pound
of Love, and Caren Simply Soft.

I have never made a pattern exactly as it is written. Thus, sweaters are
not on my radar, LOL.

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] Yarn for making afghans

Hi all.
I am planning to make an afghan by crocheting motif squares and putting them
together to form the big afghan. The book I am using recommends medium
weight worsted yarn. However, I think., although I am not completely sure
that this May result in a product that maybe too heavy for my liking. I am
looking for a yarn that is soft, but light. If anyone has suggestions that
would be awesome.
