I'm not Debbie, but I'm pretty sure I have an idea of how we will be doing it, if I'm correct, it will all be done as one piece, each row will create the borders and heart shape as we work across them, working in knits and purls, the heart shape will be formed by the placement of the purl stitches. Since the purl stitches will produce a raised bump, we should be able to feel it when sliding our hands across the afghan.
