[Nfb-krafters-korner] For Lisa Maria, the Lion Brand shrug pattern

Lisa Maria,

What I am about to describe is for a shrug that I made, and not the pattern
you are working on, so I am not 100% sure that this will apply, but maybe it
will help you start to form an idea about your pattern.

Think of a rectangle. Fold it in half so that the long edges meet. Now you
have a very long narrow rectangle. One long edge is the folded edge and the
other long edge is made up of the 2 fabric edges. Now you need to sew 2
6-inch seams along the long edge. One will start at one corner and close up
6 inches of the long edge, and the other seam will do the same at the
opposite corner. The section along the long edge between the 2 seams is
open.

When you wear the shrug, you will slide your hand in the long opening near
one of the 6-inch seams, through the tunnel made by the 6-inch seam and the
folded edge, and out the short end of the rectangle. You will do the same
with the other hand at the 6-inch seam at the other end.

When I put this on, I kind of picture that the fabric is fort of shaped like
a canoe. The part of the canoe where you sit is going across your shoulders
and back and your hands are coming out of the front and back ends of the
canoe.

HTH,
Annette

Candy,

I guess I am confused as to how to fold the material and sew the armholes. I
thought according to the instructions you fold The crocheted material in
half and sew up the short sides partway leaving an opening for your arms
where the armholes sit near the folded edge. If this is the case, how do you
wear it because I am just not understanding how it ought to look? Thank you.

head. Once the armholes are stitched down, you put it on like a sweater. It
ends up being half-sweater half-cape, with kind of a full collar in back. A
very nice garment.

and so the thing stretched and is now way long in the back. I'd recommend
some kind of blend yarn or acryllic yarn for this piece. I'm thinking I will
donate my now-enormous shrug to my tiny dog as yet another dog bed.
