[Nfb-krafters-korner] knit picks circular needles

Deidre,

Yes, some needles are longer than others. Generally, straight needles come
between 10 and 16 inches, most common are the 10 inch, but I own and have
used the 16 inch needles for very large projects like afghans.

Double pointed needles come in several different lengths, from teeny little
4 inchers all the way up to 16. But mostly I see them at 7 or 9 inches.

The needle tips in the interchangeable set are all the same length from tip
down to the end of the metal part that connects to the cord, but on the
fatter needles, this metal bit is longer since it starts out at a wider
diameter and then tapers down the the uniform size that connects to the
cord.

The only time I ever had my yarn catch on the Knit Picks set is when I
didn't use the key to tighten them. These interchangeable needles really
are as great as the advertisements make them sound, if you use them as
directed.

Actually, there was one other time the yarn caught. But I was using an
absolute death grip on the yarn and needles so all my stitches were ultra
tight. That was only once and was only because I was trying desperately to
make it to the end of my project before the yarn ran out. This was a bad
idea and I ended up ripping the last 4 inches of the project out and using
the new ball of yarn to complete the scarf. Otherwise, the two ends of the
scarf would have been about an inch to an inch and a half different in
width. Ugly.

Cheers,
