[Nfb-krafters-korner] Making items for dogs - WAS: O T Happy Anniversary to us

Hi All,

In May I celebrated 29 years of working dog guides. I currently have my
first Sheppard named Jäger. Prior to him I've had labs, 3 yellow and 6
black. I'm running 50/50 female to male. The girls have ranged in size
from 48 pounds to 72 pounds, and the boys have ranged from 62 to 85 pounds.
The only thing I have made for one of my dogs was a retirement jacket to
wear when she went out with her new family. Related to my dogs, but for me,
I made a treat pouch that clipped to my belt and was easy to open with one
hand. I was thinking about crocheting a plarn matt for my dog's crate, but
decided against it because of how time consuming it is to make the plarn,
and because I was concerned about my dog potentially eating pieces of it if
shredding it was thought to be a good past-time while I am gone.

I've thought about sewing collar covers for every month and holiday, as well
as making some that coordinated with my nicer outfits. But the reality of
it is that I don't even have time to accessorize myself in the mornings
before running out the door to work, when would I have time to change the
dog's collar cover. I once helped the local puppy raiser group make
reversible triangular bandanas for a fundraiser.

Let me know if anyone is interested in knowing more about how to make either
of these items. They are a good beginner machine sewing project.

Annette

Well you all have me beat. I got my first dog in 2003 and my second in
2010. My Dancer is my current furry baby. We all had a big chuckle this
past Christmas when the kids decided to put a reindeer antler Head band on
Dancer. She was definitely ready for santa. The antlers stayed on for a
few minutes , but then she went to running around and it was all over!

hi Henry and other guide dog users,

can anyone beat my record of being a guide dog handler for 35 years? I just
couldn't believe it when I mathed it out! guess you've figured out I
received my first dog when I was in college.
my Dana will be six in September and she is my fifth dog.

Cathy and Dana and my husband's dog guide Moby lying at my feet.
<big smile>
