The best way is to knit a swatch, just as you would do for a needle knit
project.
For example knit12 pegs for 12 rows, then measure and see what size your
swatch is, then divide that number by 12 to determine stitches per inch.
The reason it is good to do this is because it will come out differently for
different yarns.
