I did not have a Braille display with my old Packmate. I couldn't afford
it at that time.
Laptops are cheap like $300, but I couldn't use my Brailler machine to
print unless I got the program which is more then the laptop. The packmate
worked with the Braille Blazer or whatever the name of it is.
Thanks for your thoughts on this. This baby even has the 40 cell Braille
display.

Joyce;
You will be lucky to get a refurbished unit of any kind for $2,000. I am
looking for a lap top, too.
Check with the people that do the tidbits magazine. If you go with a lap
top, it means buying a speech package. Will the Packmate last much longer,
just with a new battery? Many things to think about. Is the braille
display good enough from the packmate to use with a lap top?
I would talk it out with a tech person. It might mean taking out a loan,
but you do not want to change the battery and then, something else go wrong.

I have an old Packmate. It is the one that when the battery goes dead you
lose most everything. Now the battery will not hold a charge and they want
like $800 to upgrade it and I think replace the battery. I used this to
interface with Brailer to print things out in Braille. I am a typer.
So my question to everyone is:
1. Should I just get a lap top for taking notes.
2. Is there a note taker with keyboard that would not be too expensive
that I could do what the Packmate did?
3. $800 is out of my range to upgrade the Packmate, but ...
Any suggestions?
Any one has a note taker that they don't use and might be willing to part
with?
