both daughters, and my girl scouts used to love this one!
 
 
 
You will need 2 coffee cans, 1 large, 1 regular size, both with lids.
Duct Tape
Ice cubes
Rock salt (can get at a hardware store)
 
Ice Cream ingredients:
1 cup milk
1cup heavy cream
½ cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 
 
Directions:
 
Mix together in smaller can, milk, cream, sugar and vanilla.
 
Place cover on can and seal closed with duct tape.  Shake can to mix
ingredients well.
 
Place small can inside large can.  Surround the smaller can with layers of
ice and sprinkle in rock salt.  When the large can is full, seal on the top
of the large can with duct tape.
 
Have the kids kick the can (gently) or they can roll it down the slide, or
they can roll it back and forth in a sling made by 2 kids holding opposite
ends of a towel.  Anything to keep them occupied rolling that can back and
forth for 10 minutes. 
 
Open the can, remove the small can, stir the ice cream scraping the sides of
the can. 
 
(stir in variation options listed below)
 
Reseal the small can, Put back in the larger can, add more ice and salt.
 
Reseal, and begin the can kicking again for another 10 or 15 minutes.
 
Open the can and enjoy!
 
 
Variations:
 
Stir in a ½ cup of sliced strawberries or mini-chocolate chips, crumbled
peanut butter cups, or any other fun stir in at the midpoint when you open
the can to scrape down the sides.
 
Make sure that the stir ins are well chilled, this will also help chill the
ice cream faster!
