Joyce,

We use to sew 6 pot holders together to make a placemat.  4 pot holders sewn
together can be used for a hot pad under a hot serving platter at the table.
14 pot holders could be assembled to make a tote bag.  4 for the front, 4
for the back and 2 each for the bottom and each of the sides.  Add a handle
and you are ready to go.

Harris looms carry the original potholder looms and they have the cotton
potholder loops.  I wish they made a place mat loom size.
